Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We have an opportunity for a dedicated and motivated educator to teach on our Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree specialising in Media Design. The BDes combines highly creative media design with visual communication courses. The degree has been created through a unique partnership between the Media and Design departments at the University of Waikato, in consultation with the design industry to meet the increasing demand for creators who can work across a range of platforms. Join our existing team of educators and practitioners that already specialise in film, animation and digital culture.
You will provide quality teaching and oversight to students through lectures, and practice-based workshops, and undertake paper administration. You will also be responsible for their assessment of degree credit work, and may be required to train and supervise other staff.
For more information on this role please see the position description here. The salary range for Professional Teaching Fellows will be in the range of CNY388,000 to CNY455,000 per year dependent on qualifications, skills and experience.
Ko wai koe? - Who are you?
You will have a relevant qualifications (a Masters degree) and professional experience with creative practice and creative media technologies. You will bring successful undergraduate teaching experiences to the role to enable you to develop student creative media practices using digital technologies and software (e.g. to create interactive media, AR/VR, original AV content, creative advertising and marketing). You will be confident in sharing knowledge through lectures and running hands-on creative workshops.
Ideally you will have experience living and working in China. Patience and the ability to work with students for whom English is not their first language is essential, along with familiarity with media in China. Teaching will be conducted in the English language.

We are proud of our Joint Institute at Zhejiang University City College which is designated as an Institute authorised to deliver NZ (University of Waikato) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited degrees. Currently the Institute offers undergraduate degrees in Media, Design and Finance. All teaching is conducted in English. Into its fifth year of operation, the Institute in Hangzhou has 16 staff and an enrolment of 1,000 students.

The appointment will start as soon as possible and the applicant will be an international expert, and employment compliant with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment as a foreign expert with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.
